Nikita’s Wish Adoption Procedure:
We want to ensure that our animals find a perfect forever-home. To do this, we require our potential adopters to go through a few steps before a pet joins the family.
To start the adoption procedure, fill out the Online Adoption Application. After your application has been reviewed and approved, a volunteer will telephone or e-mail you, usually within 48 hours. During this conversation, the animal’s foster parent will arrange a time for you to visit the pet you applied for. Depending upon your household's situation, a home visit may also be required to ensure that the pet is a good addition to your family. If everything goes well, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay a nominal adoption fee. At this time, your new pet is ready to come to his forever home.
Adoption Fees:
•Rat: $10 per pair (must show proof of cage)
•Rabbit: $40
•Cat: $85
•Mixed Breed Dog: $95
•Purebred Dog: $175
Please remember that we do not make money from our adoption fees, which barely cover the cost of medical and basic care given to our animals. At the time of adoption, all dogs and cats are current on worming, flea heartworm prevention and all dog and cat shots, except rabies. All dogs and cats offered for adoption are either spayed or neutered. If a dog or cat is too young to be spayed or neutered when adopted, doing so becomes the responsibility of the adoptive family and must be done within 14 days of the dog coming of age. Nikita’s Wish provides a spay/neuter certificate in these cases.
After much wrestling with the decision, we unfortunately will have to ask a nominal fee to conduct home visits for people who live 30 miles or more outside of Kent, OH. Unless it is an exceptional circumstance, this added fee is the cost of gas above and beyond the 30 mile limit. With the rising gas prices we are unable to afford home visits longer than 30 miles away and still provide everything needed for our rescued animals. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
